Life without mobile phones is a thing of yore. Radio signals were first used for military and emergency purposes. Mobile signals are similar but more advanced form of these. These gadgets were once exclusively used by the wealthy. Now, it has permeated down the social ladder and has reached all the classes of the society. There are models to suit everyone's budget. In fact, it is a great social leveler. The device has transgressed social barriers and has touched the lives of all.
Mobile phones, perhaps are the most sold consumer electronics. All other electronic goods have longer life and do not need frequent replacement. But these devices have greater usage and more importantly the constant introduction of newer and more sophisticated models in to the market makes the older versions obsolete. The older versions lose their charm and the consumers inevitably change to fancier models. I suppose that these gadgets not only mirror the style and status of the user but also speaks of his tastes. Those who place more importance to the utility of the device may choose models with understated appearance and greater utility. The flamboyant types choose flashy and glaringly fancy handsets. These kind of people lay more stress on the looks and not on the utility features incorporated. It is obvious that the companies cater to everyone's tastes and this explains the infinite models and series of handsets.
The great fancy the world has taken to this electronic devices has led to shops selling them spring up in every nook and corner. The consumer electronics industry has never seen a greater boom. These devices have not limited themselves to communication. They function as music players, pocket-cameras, pocket-computers and data storage devices. The newer models come equipped with several features like wireless data transfer, touchscreen display, Internet accessibility, Emailing and Navigator. With greater number of features packed into the mobile phones, users are getting increasingly dependent on these gadgets. In my opinion, the lop-side of this dependence is that the user relies less on himself and more on external gadgets.
